U11 Bessacarr FC 1 - 1 Tickhill Juniors PDF Print E-mail

After having 2 tough and evenly contested matches against Tickhill already this season, we met for the final time in the League, expecting another closely fought game. From the kick off it was clear that again there would be northing between the teams. Bessacarr passed the ball around well, and slowly started to get on top but without being able to create a clear chance. On several occasions the midfield came within inches of putting Ross, Jay G and Jack C clear through on goal, although when Tickhill did break forward they did so quickly, and Joe, Rhys and Christian all had to be on their guard and worked hard to protect Jacob. However, just before half time the breakthrough came, when Ross broke through and was challenged just before he was about to shoot, the ball coming out to Rhys whose shot was blocked but fell to Jack C who buried it past the keeper. The boys held onto their slim advantage until half time, but knew that they were going to have to work hard to hang on to their lead. The second half started with Tickhill on the attack, and twice Jacob had to come off his line to clear. As the half progressed, Tickhill started to get on top, and the boys found themselves getting pushed further and further back. However, Bessacarr did continue to threaten when they attacked, and Jay W came close on 2 occasions to adding to the lead but couldn't quite get his shots on target (keep plugging away Jay!). However as Tickhill continued to dominate, it was thanks to Jacob, some desperate defending and the crossbar, that the boys managed to hang on to their slender lead. However, with a few minutes still remaining, Tickhill finally equalised, as a shot managed to just about creep over the line in spite of Jacob's efforts to claw it back. Although it looked like Tickhill might go on to win, Bessacarr hung on and defended well, as the game ended in a 1-1 draw. A game of 2 halves as they say, and for the 3rd time an entertaining game between 2 evenly matched teams. The boys looked thoroughly shattered at the end (which is always a good sign) and knew they had been in a game - well done.
