Under 12s Premier League - 6th February 2011 Bessacarr FC 0 - Barnby Dun Colts 2 Two factors contributed to Bessacarr's downfall this weekend; 1 - a howling wind was blowing down the pitch, 2 - the Mr Hyde to Bessacarr's Dr Jeckyll decided to show up in the form of a very complacent set of players. Bessacarr were playing with the wind in the first half but it was Barnby Dun who were playing the football and were rewarded within five minutes when a low strike from wide left evaded the diving Tom Dangerfield (0 - 1). This had the effect of waking the Bessacarr players up slightly and the almost all of the remainder of the half was played in Barnby Dun territory but despite numerous near-misses and hitting the woodwork on numerous occasions a goal could not be found. Turning round with the wind at their backs Barnby Dun struck again early in the second half when numerous missed attempts at a clearance led to a scrappy goal being poked past a bemused Tom Dangerfield (0 - 2). Bessacarr did eventually start to string some passes together and work the ball out of their own half in the final quarter of the game but it was a case of too little too late and the game was brought to a welcome end. This being probably their worst performance to date it was decided that there was no Man of the Match. Bessacarr players (subs) Tom Dangerfield, Max McClellan, Daniel Honeybone, Jake Sadler, Matthew Earl (Daniel Wilkinson 30 Mins), Johan Southern (Jared Green 30 Mins), Jack Wilson, Will Morley, James Garrett (Alex O'Malley 30 Mins), Tom Humphreys, Eddie Fisher |

Under 12s Premier League - 30th January 2011 Bessacarr FC 4 - Tickhill Juniors 2 Tickhill came to this game determined to avenge their loss at home and, on the balance of play, were the better team on the day. Bessacarr's ability to keep a level head under pressure and possibly slightly superior fitness won them the game. The first half was a very even end-to-end affair with plenty of chances being created at both ends. Bessacarr got off the mark first with a fine solo effort from Daniel Honeybone. Honeybone had pushed forward from his centre-half position and picking the ball up in mid-field he beat three attempted Tickhill tacklers and fired an unstoppable shot low into the bottom right corner of the Tickhill net (1 - 0). The half continued to see-saw and Tickhill were next to get on the score sheet when they grabbed an equaliser (1 - 1). Tickhill continued to press and were rewarded with their second when a long range effort had Tom Dangerfield diving one way only for the ball to take a wicked deflection off of Jack Wilson's arched back and find the opposite corner of the goal (1 - 2). Bessacarr were quick to respond and the equaliser was provided just before half time by Tom Humphreys. Chad Turner showed the excellent vision that he's been developing throughout the season and slotted a perfectly weighted pass through the Tickhill defence for Humphreys to run onto. Humphreys carried the ball forward and rifled the ball over the Tickhill keeper into the roof of the net (2 - 2). The second half saw Bessacarr's defence repel wave after wave of Tickhill pressure with Bessacarr creating a few chances on the counter. This continued until ten minutes from time when Bessacarr broke the deadlock. Tom Humphreys picked the ball up from one of Bessacarr's few counters and carried it up the left touch line almost to the corner flag. His strong low cross was just in front of Jack Wilson's outstretched boot but Alex O'Malley had timed his supporting run to perfection and slid the ball past the diving Tickhill keeper into the bottom right corner of the net (3 - 2). The ascendency having switched again Bessacarr now piled on the pressure for the last few minutes and were rewarded with their fourth when an excellently weighted left foot pass from Jared Green found Jack Wilson who, after being caught offside three times previously, had timed his run perfectly. Wilson's low drive into the bottom left corner gave the Tickhill keeper little chance to react (4 - 2). The final whistle blew almost immediately from the kick-off leaving the Tickhill manager's feeling that they'd had their pockets picked. Man of the Match was given to Daniel Wilkinson who was rock solid at centre-half all game. Bessacarr players (subs) Tom Dangerfield, Sam Geldard, Daniel Honeybone, Daniel Wilkinson, Ben Carville (Matthew Earl 30 Mins), Johan Southern (Jared Green 30 Mins), Chad Turner, Jack Wilson, James Garrett (Alex O'Malley 30 Mins), Tom Humphreys, Eddie Fisher (Max McClellan 30 Mins) |

Under 12s Premier League - 23rd January 2011 Hyde Park Knights 4 - Bessacarr FC 3 A game that Bessacarr should have won but the vagaries of football struck twice in one game to rob them. Having beaten Hyde Park comfortably in the league game, to then lose to them in the cup, the Bessacarr players were well up for this one and were actually the better team on the day creating more chances and putting Hyde Park on the back foot for long periods of the match. Bessacarr were off the mark first with an effort from Eddie Fisher. Tom Humphreys picked up a nicely weighted pass up the left hand touch line from Johan Southern and carried the ball forward before then firing a low cross to find Fisher making his supporting run. Fisher rounded the out-rushing keeper and slotted the ball coolly into the open net (0 - 1). The next goal scored by a Bessacarr player was an own goal. A Hyde Park cross from wide left evaded almost everyone in the packed Bessacarr area until it came through to Jack Wilson who tried to play the ball back to Tom Dangerfield from very close range. Dangerfield new nothing about the attempted pass and could only watch it roll past his outstretched left glove - vagary number one (1 - 1). Undeterred by the set back Bessacarr continued to press and were rewarded by another super-cool Eddie Fisher finish. The ball had been worked up to mid-field where it was held up by Will Morley who then laid in a superb pass through the middle of the Hyde Park defence to find Fisher's excellently timed run. Fisher still had a lot to do at this point but proceeded to knock the ball round the Hyde Park keeper for a second time and again slot the ball into the open net (1 - 2). Half time came soon after. The Hyde Park manager's half time team talk seemed to do the trick as the home side came out in the second half in much more determined mood. The third quarter of the game became an arm-wrestle with few chances created by either side until Hyde Park managed to break the deadlock to grab an equaliser (2 - 2). Vagary number two struck only a few minutes later when Bessacarr had worked the ball up through mid-field well and a well placed pass from Chad Turner found Tom Humphreys in space behind the Hyde Park defence. Humphreys struck a fine drive that caught the cross-bar and bounced down over the line before being scooped out by the Hyde Park keeper. As the referee had not kept up with play the goal was not awarded much to the dismay of the Bessacarr players (shades of Frank Lampard in the world cup). This seemed to prove a turning point in the game and Hyde Park took there turn to apply pressure and were able to grab two goals in fairly quick succession from two very well taken corners (4 - 2). The Bessacarr players rallied and had the last word when Alex O'Malley's fine through ball found Tom Humphreys in space again. This time Humphreys made no mistake and hammered the ball (with what looked like a great deal of satisfaction) into the roof of the Hyde Park net (4 - 3). This set up a very tense last few minutes with Bessacarr throwing everything at the resolute Hyde Park defence but time was not on their side and the final whistle brought the game to an end. Man of the Match was given to Tom Dangerfield who produced some fine saves throughout the match particularly in the second half. Bessacarr players (subs) Tom Dangerfield, Sam Geldard, Jack Wilson (Daniel Wilkinson 30 Mins), Jake Sadler, Max McClellan (Matthew Earl 30 Mins), Johan Southern (Alex O'Malley 30 Mins), Chad Turner, Will Morley, James Garrett (Jared Green 30 Mins), Tom Humphreys, Eddie Fisher |

Under 12s Premier League - 9th January 2011 Bessacarr FC 1 - Armthorpe Rovers 6 Games against Armthorpe have always been tough and this weekend was no different. Matters weren't helped at all when Chad Turner pulled up in pre-match warm-up with a problem with his ankle and so a last minute re-shuffle was required. Playing the first half slightly out of shape didn't seem to go down well and Armthorpe dominated the half to go in at the break 0 - 3 up. Turner had shaken off the problem for the second half and, back to some kind of normality, Bessacarr were able to create a few chances of their own drawing some very good saves from the Armthorpe keeper. Armthorpe had grabbed another before Bessacarr finally found the net. A free kick had been awarded well outside the eighteen yard box so Daniel Honeybone stepped up to hit a perfect looping long range effort that just dipped under the bar leaving the Armthorpe keeper sprawling in his own goal. Although the game continued to be a more even contest through to the end of the match Armthorpe grabbed another two to leave the final score 1 - 6. Man of the Match was given to Matthew Earl for his excellent attitude in chasing down every chance the Armthorpe strikers had. Bessacarr players (subs) Tom Dangerfield, Sam Geldard, Daniel Wilkinson (Chad Turner 30 Mins), Jake Sadler (Matthew Earl 30 Mins), Ben Carville (Max McClellan 30 Mins), James Garrett, Daniel Honeybone, Will Morley, Jack Wilson, Tom Humphreys, Johan Southern (Jared Green 30 Mins) |

Under 12s Premier League - 21st November 2010 Sprotbrough & Cusworth Crusaders 1 - Bessacarr FC 6 The first of the reverse fixtures this season came as Bessacarr's away leg to Sprotbrough which was strange for two reasons; 1. We had only played the home leg two weeks ago; 2. Sprotbrough's pitch was level :. With the home leg still fresh in the Bessacarr players' memories, particularly the nature of the win, Bessacarr started the game strongly and immediately had Sprotbrough on the back foot testing the Sprotbrough keeper a few times and forcing some very fine saves. Bessacarr's first goal came towards the end of the first quarter when James Garrett worked the ball forward well up the left wing and then laid off a fine square ball to find Chad Turner in space on the edge of the centre circle. Turner took one touch and then fired a long range effort which just dipped under the bar leaving the Sprotbrough keeper unable to get near it (0 - 1). The second quarter of the game became a bit more even with Sprotbrough stung into action and pressing the Bessacarr defence who were more than up to the task. Bessacarr's second goal came from some fine passing to work the ball out of defence starting from Sam Geldard who pushed the ball out to James Garrett. Garrett carried the ball forward well again and then laid in a fine diagonal pass to Eddie Fisher just in front of the Sprotbrough back four. Fisher turned and pushed an excellently timed pass through the defence for Jack Wilson to run onto. Wilson fired a low shot from right of goal into the bottom right corner leaving the diving Sprotbrough keeper clutching at thin air (0 - 2). Almost from the kick-off Sprotbrough replied with a goal of there own when the Sprotbrough striker finally breached the Bessacarr defence and struck a low drive to Tom Dangerfield's right. Dangerfield's dive did allow him to get finger tips to the ball but the shot had just enough power to see it trickle over the line (1 - 2). Going into the interval 1 - 2 ahead the Bessacarr players knew there was plenty of work still to be done and the second half showed just how a team can work together both in attack and covering in defence. The second half started as a bit of an end to end arm wrestle with both teams seemingly taking in turns to push forward. Bessacarr were the first to reap any rewards when Eddie Fisher chased down a through ball that the Sprotbrough defence had left to go dead. Fisher's rapid cross found Tom Humphreys who had come across to the right post but had his back to goal. With the Sprotbrough keeper racing towards him Humphreys spun and fired a low shot to the keeper's right totally wrong-footing him (1 - 3). Bessacarr were now getting hungry for more goals and pushing forward, particularly the left sided defenders. Sprotbrough managed to catch them out of position on a few occasions to get forward up their right. It has to be said that if it hadn't been for some fine defending from both Daniel Wilkinson and Ben Carville Sprotbrough's efforts may have yielded some success. As it was the two right sided defenders covered across very well and any shots that did get through were dealt with by Tom Dangerfield on fine form. The game was pretty much sealed when Eddie Fisher's hard work and solo effort grabbed Bessacarr's fourth. In typical style Fisher put pressure on the Sprotbrough defence, won the ball, carried it forward himself and slid it coolly past the keeper (1 - 4). Moving into the last quarter of the game Bessacarr were queuing up to score and it was Daniel Honeybone next to get onto the score sheet with a 'Honeybone Special'. Honeybone fielded the Sprotbrough keeper's kick on the half way line, brought the ball forward to just outside the 18 yard box and left of goal and fired a shot out of reach of the keeper into the right hand corner (1 - 5). In the last few minutes of the game Bessacarr grabbed a sixth when Jack Wilson, now playing a central midfield role, fed a ball through the Sprotbrough defence for Tom Humphreys to run onto and coolly slot past a, by now, very dispirited Sprotbrough keeper into the bottom left corner (1 - 6). Man of the Match was given to James Garrett who had responded superbly to the managers' requests to look up and pass the ball a bit more. Bessacarr players (subs) Tom Dangerfield, Sam Geldard (Max McClellan 30 Mins), Daniel Honeybone, Jake Sadler (Daniel Wilkinson 30 Mins), Ben Carville, James Garrett (Alex O'Malley 30 Mins), Chad Turner, Will Morley, Jack Wilson (Jared Green 30 Mins), Tom Humphreys, Eddie Fisher |
