Under 12s Premier League - 7th November 2010 Bessacarr FC 3 - Sprotbrough & Cusworth Crusaders 0 Sprotbrough are another regular adversary who we've played for the last 5 years and games with them are always tricky. The first half was a very tight affair with Bessacarr's defence tested on numerous occasions and not found wanting and the game came to the interval without a goal being scored. In the 2nd half Bessacarr began to apply more pressure with the result that the Sprotbrough defence were dropping deeper and deeper, the Sprotbrough area now becoming more and more congested. Bessacarr's 1st reward came from a penalty when Eddie Fisher was brought down in the Sprotbrough area whilst trying to get onto a very fine Tom Humphreys cross. How deliberate the offence was may possibly be up for discussion but the penalty awarded Chad Turner stepped up and gave the Sprotbrough keeper no chance with a left foot cannon into the right corner (1 - 0). With the goal advantage and gaining in confidence Bessacarr stepped up a gear the game becoming more and more one-sided. Bessacarr's 2nd goal came from another penalty after Tom Humphreys was brought down in the Sprotbrough area when he had broken through by a push from behind - this time there was no discussion. Again Chad Turner stepped up and fired home with his usual cool (2 - 0). The game was played almost entirely in the Sprotbrough half for the last quarter and Bessacarr's 3rd goal eventually came from opne play when Chad Turner placed a superb defence splitting pass for Tom Humphreys to run onto. Humphreys took 2 touches to set himself up and then fired a stinging left foot effort which was met well by the Sprotbrough keeper who could only parry it back towards the on-rushing Humphreys who's 2nd effort from closer range was unstoppable (3 - 0). Man of the Match was given to Ben Carville who's superb first half performance totally nullified the Sprotbrough attack. Bessacarr players (subs) Tom Dangerfield, Sam Geldard, Max McClellan, Jake Sadler (Daniel Wilkinson 30 Mins), Ben Carville (Matthew Earl 30 Mins), Johan Southern (Alex O'Malley 30 Mins), Chad Turner, Will Morley, Jack Wilson (Jared Green 30 Mins), Tom Humphreys, Eddie Fisher |

Under 12s Premier League - 24th October 2010 Tickhill Juniors 2 - Bessacarr FC 4 With the blank fixture the previous week Bessacarr came to this game fresh and with the previous two league losses a distant memory. Tickhill have been a regular adversary for the last 5 years and games with them are always tight which was exactly how this one began with most of the football being played in midfield and both defences working well. Bessacarr were the first to break the deadlock when Tom Humphreys pushed the ball forward along the left wing and fired in a cross which was fielded by the Tickhill right back only to fall at the feet of the supporting James Garrett. Garrett's fine square ball across the area found the in-rushing Jack Wilson who hit a fine half volley low into the right hand corner (0 - 1). The mid-field arm-wrestle then continued until late in the first half when Tickhill finally managed to breach the otherwise impregnable Bessacarr defence with a fine cross from the right and sneak one in just inside the left-hand post (1 - 1). At 1 - 1 at half time the game was anybody's but Bessacarr came out for the second half the more confident and it didn't take long before they began to dominate. Bessacarr's second goal came from a well placed Jared Green throw which found Chad Turner in space just outside the 18 yard box. In this position there is only one thing on Turner's mind and his high looping shot had the Tickhill keeper beat as soon as he'd hit it. The ball dipped just under the bar leaving the Tickhill keeper stretching but unable to reach it (1 - 2). Although most of the pressure was coming from Bessacarr Tickhill, to there credit, stuck to the task and managed to force a corner from the left. The corner was superbly placed and the in-rushing centre-half placed a powerful header past the diving Tom Dangerfield (2 - 2). Normal service is resumed by Bessacarr when another superb Jared Green long throw from near the half way line finds Eddie Fisher bursting through the Tickhill defence. Fisher's shot from wide right has the diving Tickhill keeper beat but is going wide of the left hand post only for the supporting Johan Southern to steer it in with a simple tap-in (2 - 3). Tickhill gain another opportunity to equalise when Max McClellan mis-controls the ball, is adjudged to have handled the ball in the Bessacarr area and a penalty is awarded. With Tom Dangerfield standing tall in the goal the Tickhill striker fires the ball over the cross-bar. With about 10 minutes to go Bessacarr finally seal the game when a superbly low struck attempt on goal by Jack Wilson has the Tickhill keeper fumbling. Eddie Fisher as always there to pressure the keeper pounces to nick the loose ball and poke it in - a fine poacher's effort (2 - 4). Man of the Match was given to Chad Turner who gave one his hard working efforts to 'boss' the midfield. Bessacarr players (subs) Tom Dangerfield, Sam Geldard, Dan Honeybone, Max McClellan, Ben Carville (Matthew Earl 30 Mins), James Garrett (Johan Southern 30 Mins), Chad Turner, Jack Wilson, Alex O'Malley (Jared Green 30 Mins), Tom Humphreys, Eddie Fisher |

Under 12s Premier League - 10th October 2010 Armthorpe Rovers 5 - Bessacarr FC 2 The Bessacarr captain (Will Morley) put his body on the line literally in this game which was a lot tighter than the scoreline would indicate. After the previous week's thumping at the hands of Scawthorpe the Bessacarr players' confidence had taken a knock but they stuck to the task well and produced a tight game which was 2 - 2 with 10 minutes to go. The game started very cagily with half chances being created at both ends but the majority of possession and pressure coming from Armthorpe. Bessacarr were defending well and looked dangerous on the counter attack. Half time came with Armthorpe 2 - 0 up after scoring twice from very well taken corner kicks. Bessacarr came out firing in the second half and really took the game to Armthorpe and it wasn't long before they were on the scoresheet. Will Morley had brought the ball forward from deep midfield working the ball well with Eddie Fisher. Fisher fed the ball out wide to the supporting Alex O'Malley who struck a fine cross to find Morley in the area. Morley controlled the ball well, turned and hit a high looping shot lobbing the keeper perfectly (2 - 1). Fired up now and gaining in confidence Bessacarr continued to pile on the pressure and got their just deserts when, after some fine attacking play up the middle, the ball came out to Tom Humphreys. Humphreys' shot was blocked well by the Armthorpe keeper but Will Morley was in exactly the right position to pounce on the rebound and hammer the ball home (2 - 2). The game became a real arm wrestle after this with Will Morley taking the ball full in the face for the second time in the match and having to leave the field. The deadlock was broken with ten minutes to go when Armthorpe were awarded a penalty which was taken well to put them in a strong position to finish the game (3 - 2). The penalty decision seemed to knock the wind out of the Bessacarr players' sails and Armthorpe managed to nick another 2 to really put the game away (5 - 2). Man of the Match was given to Sam Geldard who had an excellent game both defensively and bringing the ball forward. Bessacarr players (subs) Tom Dangerfield, Sam Geldard, Dan Honeybone, Jack Wilson (Matthew Earl 40 Mins), Ben Carville (Max McClellan 30 Mins), Johan Southern (Alex O'Malley 30 Mins), Chad Turner, Will Morley, James Garrett, Tom Humphreys, Eddie Fisher |

Under 12s Premier League - 3rd October 2010 Bessacarr FC 1 - Scawthorpe Scorpions 8 A very wet and windy morning was made much worse by what was Bessacarr's heaviest defeat ever. Knowing that Scawthorpe were going to be very strong opponents the Bessacarr coaches had tried to adopt a defensive strategy with the possibility of attacking on the counter but this didn't suit the Bessacarr's players' style and inevitably Scawthorpe broke through their defence scoring four goals to go in at half time 0 - 4 up. The second half wasn't much better and Scawthorpe added another two before Bessacarr managed to get on the score sheet. Bessacarr were awarded a free kick well outside and to the right of the Scawthorpe area and up stepped Daniel Honeybone to fire a powerful low shot that evaded everyone including the diving Scawthorpe keeper into the bottom right corner (1 - 6). Scawthorpe, however, continued the barrage and grabbed another two before the final whistle to leave a very sad looking scoreline of 1 - 8. Bessacarr Man of the Match was given to Will Morley who battled hard and did his best to keep the Bessacarr players motivated. Bessacarr players (subs) Tom Dangerfield, Sam Geldard, Dan Honeybone, Jack Wilson, Ben Carville (Matthew Earl 30 Mins), Chad Turner, Jake Sadler (Max McClellan 30 Mins), Will Morley, James Garrett (Alex O'Malley 30 Mins), Tom Humphreys, Eddie Fisher |

Under 12s League Cup - 26th September 2010 Bessacarr FC 1 - Hyde Park Knights 4 A problem that Bessacarr suffered from last season was the cause for the loss in this league cup first round fixture against Hyde Park and that was complacency! Having comprehensively beaten Hyde Park in the first league game of the season the Bessacarr players seemed to revert to a 'we only need to show up to win' attitude which haunted the team, to a certain extent, during their Division 1 winning campaign last season. That's not to take anything away from Hyde Park who turned up with the right game plan and executed it very well - their striker having a particularly good game and scoring all four of Hyde Park's goals. Bessacarr were 0 - 2 down at half time after their defence had been unlocked by some excellently timed runs by the Hyde Park striker and a stern team talk was required. The second half produced some better football and the Bessacarr players started to put some passes together but Hyde Park could smell the win and were well up for it, their striker literally running himself into the ground at one point. It was no surprise, therefore, that they scored the next goal to go 0 - 3 up. Bessacarr stuck to the task and were rewarded for their efforts when the ball was worked out of defence to Chad Turner who carried it forward and laid in one of his typical defence splitting passes for Tom Humphreys to run onto and fire low into the bottom left corner (1 - 3). Hyde Park, however, had the last word to score again with only a few minutes left on the clock (1 - 4). The final whistle came to signal the end of what has to be described as one of Bessacarr's worst performances since moving up to 11-a-side. There was only one real choice for Man of the Match and that was goal keeper Tom Dangerfield. Dangerfield had been left high and dry by his defence on numerous occasions but still managed to produce some fine saves to prevent the scoreline being ridiculous. Bessacarr players (subs) Tom Dangerfield, Sam Geldard, Dan Honeybone, Jake Sadler (Matthew Earl 30 Mins), Ben Carville (Max McClellan 30 Mins), Johan Southern (Jared Green 30 Mins), Chad Turner, Will Morley, Jack Wilson (Alex O'Malley 30 Mins), Tom Humphreys, James Garrett |
