Babworth 2(1) - (2) 3 Bessacarr Bessacarr Scorers: Ben 2 Jordan 1 PoM: Jamie Mc Linesman: Mr A Rave After match scones by Mr Forbes On Sunday 13 February 2011 Bessacarr U13 took a squad of 15 to play a league fixture at Babworth Rovers near Retford. In the squad: Alex, Nathan, Matty, Tom, Liam F, Jamie Mc, Mark, Steven, Liam K, Ben, Jordan, Jamie B, Harry, Adam and James. Bessacarr kicked off and started strongly. A Nathan corner from the right went across goal passing several players on the way to be met by Jordan who hammered the ball into the back of the net. 1-0 to Bessacarr. The visitors continued to force the pace and extended their lead when Jordan collected the ball in midfield and found Jamie Mc with a good pass. Jamie then laid a superb ball on for Ben who used his strength and pace to power past the home defence giving the keeper no chance. 2-0 to Bessacarr. As the clock wound down to half time Bessacarr conceded a corner and I think at that time everyone in the visiting team was thinking about going into half time with a two goal lead. They had a rude awakening when an unchallenged Babworth player made no mistake with a free header in the middle of the 6 yard box. Half time score 2-1 to Bessacarr. The visitors were first to show in the second half when Steven fed a good ball to Ben from midfield who rounded the home keeper to plant the ball in the far corner of the net. 3-1 to Bessacarr. The game became a bit of a stale mate at this time with Bessacarr content to hold on to their lead. The hosts were not minded to give up but the Bessacarr defence held firm. Alex pulled off an excellent save from one of his own team mates. Liam K in attempting to clear the ball out for a corner looked like he was going to score an own goal in the top right angle of his own net only for Alex to pull off a spectacular full stretch diving save to tip the ball round the post. From my position I couldn't be sure but Mr Forbes seemed to think it was going in! A lack of organisation cost the visitors a goal resulting in a nervy few final minutes to the game. Everyone bar one defender went up to the Babworth 18 yard box for a Bessacarr free kick but of course the hosts broke in numbers and despite a valient chase by the visitors Alex was unable to stop the shot in a one on one with the Babworth forward. Final score 3-2 to Bessacarr and a very welcome 3 points to the cause. Todays Player of the Match assessors Mr & Mrs Swaby cited Ben and Jordan for their excellent perfomances in leading the Bessacarr line and awared their vote to Jamie Mc who played out the game in the wide right position. Jamie was instrumental in Ben's first goal and was a constant threat going forward. He tucked into midfield behind the ball when Babworth were attacking and he was a major influence in Bessacarr dominating the game. he produced a couple of his trademark sliding tackles during the first half. Well done Jamie. Another good and generally organised performance by Bessacarr today. I thought they were solid in defence but as so often happens a couple of lapses in concentration cost them goals. The first from a corner when everyone seemed to switch off and stand still and the second due to a lack of organisation allowing the hosts to score on the break. The nice thing to see that after realising what the problem was the players organsied themselves into a group of 4 staying on the half way line during further corners and whilst this was a bit of an overkill it nevertheless proved effective. Plenty of communication on the pitch today (yapping to each other!) which was good to hear. Well done everyone. Just a final note on todays arrangements and for the avoidance of any doubt - everyone in the Bessacarr squad is a valued member of the team and we have no wish to alienate or isolate anyone. Game time for the 4 substitutes left a lot to be desired today but over the course of the season hopefully everyone should have the opportunity to prove themselves. We are in a position where we have to win games and that means we have to select a team that we think can do the job. There are players of mixed ability in the group but we are blessed with a generous number of coaches and helpers and I would hope that we can target individual players with particular coaching. Everyone has an area they need to improve and it would seem so much better if these needs could be focussed to suit. As a general observation the issues of mobility about the pitch, holding the ball up and closing the opposition down and winning the ball are key areas that should be addressed along with others such as positioning, organisation and communication. At the end of the day we want all players to improve and there is no reason why this shouldn't happen. Training during the forcoming week will be as normal - at Rossington on Thursday 17 February 2011 7.00pm - 8.00pm and at Cantley Park on Saturday 19 February 2011. Next Sunday we have the day off and a chance for a lie in! |
