Sunday 6 February 2011

Venue: Cantley Park

Bessacarr 0 - 0 Rossington

PoM: Nathan

Referee: Mr P Talbot

Linesman: Mr A Rave

Aftermatch match goodies by Mr Forbes

A squad of 17 a few weeks ago was reduced to 11 today. Joe has moved from the area; Jamie B is reported to have hung up his boots; Jack is not available for match days and Tom (back), Mark (knee) and Adam (illness) were unable to take part. The squad therefore comprised: Alex, Nathan, Liam K, Matty, Harry, James, Steven, Liam F, Jordan, Jamie Mc and Ben.

Mr Talbot led the players and supporters in a 1 minute silence before kick off in memory of Tom Hughes - one of three young people who tragically lost their lives in a road accident last weekend. Tom was attached to Bessacarr FC under 15's.

A strong wind presented a major influence on todays game and Bessacarr played with it at their backs in the first half. Alex in goal was a spectator for much of the half but the wind made life difficult for the forwards - causing any decent balls to overshoot out of play. Ex Doncaster Rover and Rossington dangerman Declan was well marshalled by Liam K at centre half whilst Nathan at right back was involved in many attacking moves down the right wing. Jamie Mc played some good balls towards Ben only to be frustrated by the strong wind and Ben himself got through a lot of hard work at the front. The best chance of the half fell to Ben who was only able to hit a weak left footed shot at the Rossington keeper after beating the visiting defenders.

In the second half Bessacarr faced the strong wind and were forced to soak up pressure for long periods. Alex in goal had to be on his toes and made some important catches. He produced a fine save on one of the rare occasions the visting forwards broke through. A long range shot by a Rossington player from outside the area was carried by the wind and appeared to be sailing well over Alex's goal only for it to dip suddenly and rebound into play off the cross bar. The Rossington bench appealed for a penalty that was really nothing but the best chance of the half fell to Bessacarr when Jordan was unlucky to see his effort hit the Rossington woodwork after good build up play by Ben.

Final score 0-0

Messr Fox and Mason were the player of the match assessors producing a split decision. In the end the runner up award was given to Liam K who produced an excellent performance at centre half - that was the first time he has played in that position and he proved to be a complete natural. Well done Liam. The player of the match was awarded to Nathan for another polished display at right back. Nathan was a constant block to the visitors wing play where he got through a lot of work and he was involved in many attacking moves down the Bessacarr right playing the ball well and beating his opponent on many occasions. I wouldn't want it to go to his head but he has to be one of the best right backs in the Doncaster league. Well done Nathan.

A squad of 11 meant no substitutes and there were a few tired legs at the end of the game. The small squad meant something of a reshuffle and one or two players found themselves in different positions to normal. To some extent the midfield was robbed to bolster the defence but even so Bessacarr produced the best scoring opportunity of the game. A big well done to everyone.

The raffle collected a very creditable £22 and was won by Mr Fox. A big thank you to all who contributed.

Training during the forthcoming week will be as normal at Rossington on Thursday 10 February 2011 7.00pm - 8.00pm and at Cantley Park on Saturday 12 Febraury 2011 9.00am - 10.15am.

Next Sunday we have an away fixture at Babworth Rovers who are based near Retford - watch this space for details.

U13 Rockingham v Bessacarr 30 January 2011 - Result PDF Print E-mail

Sunday 30 January 2011

Rockingham 1 (0) - (0) 0 Bessacarr

Linesman: Mr A Rave

Player of the Match: Matty

Bessacarr took a full compliment of 16 to play Rockingham Rovers at the Herringthorpe Playing Fields in Rotherham - the squad comprising Alex, Nathan, Matty, Tom, Steven, Adam, Liam K, Jamie Mc, Liam F, Ben, Jordan, Harry, Mark, James, Jack and Jamie B. A few players carrying knocks today meant something of a reshuffle in formation.

A postage stamp size pitch with virtually a full length bog down the middle of the park was the venue. Bessacarr set the ball rolling but the hosts were first to show making several threatening raids down the visitors right. Nathan had his work cut out in the early minutes of the game trying to keep the Rockingham No 8 quiet. Gradually Bessacarr gained a foothold in the match and created several openings of their own but in truth the hosts shaded the first half managing to win more first ball in midfield.

Half time score 0-0

A more even match in the second half with Bessacarr enjoying good spells around the hosts 18 yard box but without really threatening a goal - the muddy surface proving a big hindrance to anyone willing to try a shot. Alex took a nasty fall hurting his knee in the process and whilst he tried to carry on ultimately he had to be replaced - Matty stepping into the breach from his centre half position where he had formed an effective partnership with Tom. It wasn't long before Matty was called into action but he proved well up to the task making some excellent blocks and pushing one tricky ball over his cross bar. Late in the game a rockingham corner from the visitors right found its way to a player just outside the 6 yard box on the far post -  a gap appeared in the visitors defence - and a fairly simple shot sneaked just inside the upright to give the hosts the lead. Bessacarr tried to rally but couldn't find a way through.

Final score 1-0 to Rockingham

Messrs Forbes and Weedall determined the player of the match awarding their vote to Matty for a polished performance at centre half followed by an excellent spell of goalkeeping. He had a couple of tricky saves to make but wasn't found wanting and emerged from the game with real credit. Well done Matty.

A thoroughly enthralling game today and despite the loss there were some positives to be taken from the match. With such a small pitch a 1-0 scoreline seemed pretty remarkable - the ground conditions didn't help but the Bessacarr defence performed well. Leaking goals has been a real archilles heal for Bessacarr so far this season but today was a big improvement. Up front the visitors struggled to get much change out of the Rockingham defence who it has to be said played well. It was in midfield where Bessacarr struggled for large parts of the match where the hosts enjoyed too much freedom on the ball. On such a small pitch goal kicks regularly sailed over the Bessacarr midfield and if anything we need to anticipate where the ball is going. Rockingham proved much more adept at this and ultimately they were rewarded with a win. This is not to detract from any of the players on or off the pitch and there was plenty of effort throughout the team in what was a battling performance.

We are in relegation dog fight at the moment but we are determined to get out out of it. This means we have to play our strongest team whilst ever there is an opportunity to take something from a game. At 1-0 todays game wasn't lost until the final whistle blew. In short we need players who can stand up and be counted on the pitch.

Next Sunday we entertain Rossington Juniors at Cantley Park. Provisional kick off is 10.30am but watch this space for confirmation.

Training during the forthcoming week will be at Rossington on Thursday 3 February 2011 7.00pm - 8.00pm and at Cantley Park on Saturday 5 February 2011 9.00am - 10.15am.

Sunday 30 January 2011

U13 Bessacarr v Rockingham Rovers - Kick off 10.30am

Players to arrive by 10.00am for warm up drill.

From Doncaster head south on the M18 exiting at Hellaby Junction 1.

Turn right (3rd exit) at M18 roundabout onto A631 Bawtry Road heading toward Wickersley.

Continue over first roundabout (2nd exit) onto A631 Bawtry Road.

Turn right at next 'semi roundabout' junction onto A6021 Wickersley Road.

Continue straight on (2nd exit) at next roundabout onto A6021 Wickersley Road.

Take the second right onto Middle Lane South and the Herringthorpe Playing Fields will come into view on the left hand side. I believe there is a car park on the LHS shortly before the playing fields come into view but parking is possible further along on Middle Lane South although it does result in a bit of a hike across the playing fields!

Good luck everyone.
