After the last encouraging performance, hopes were high that the boys would continue where they left off with their 2nd half perfomance against Rossington. Again a full squad was available which meant that somebody had to stand down - this time being Thomas. As the game kicked off it swung from end to end. Although the game was quite even it was Bentley that created the clearer chances, meaning Brandon (captain for the day), Joe, Christian, Jack R and Jacob all had to work hard to prevent Bentley taking the lead. Henry, Oscar, Cameron and Jack linked up well several times which looked promising, but Bessacarr's best chance came after some good play by Jay W down the middle, who broke into the area but saw his well placed shot saved by the Bentley keeper. However, it was Bentley who took the lead, following a quick breakaway, and went into half time leading 1-0. Following several changes the boys tried hard to get back into the game and gradually started to get on top, palying some lovely football. As they pushed forwards there were a couple of occasions where it just needed somebody to shoot (...hence the screams from Martin & myself!). Ross must have heard the screams, and twice went within inches of getting an equaliser, but in spite of all the presure the goal just wouldn’t come, and the game ended in a hard fought but narrow defeat. With a little more luck, and conviction in front of goal they could easily have gone on to win, but maybe something to work on in training boys? (MoM = Brandon) |

Following the long winter break, the boys finally had a chance to shake off a few cobwebs with a tough game against Rossington, who went into the game with a 100% record this season. With everyone available again except Cameron, the game kicked off on a hard pitch, with the boys playing into the wind. Rossington, unsurprisingly started strongly and put pressure on from the beginning, but the boys defended well. Jack Robbo, Rhys, Thomas and Christian worked hard to stop a number of attacks, whilst Ross and Emil tried their best to mount a few attacks of our own. However it was Rossington who took the lead when a cross wasn't cleared, and soon got a 2nd. As Bessacarr tried to fight back, a good move led to Jay W breaking into the area before being challenged just as he was about to shoot. Ant and Emil tried to get down the wings, but it was Rossington who broke away to go into a 3-0 lead at half time. However, the boys general play had got better as the half went on, and hopes were high that they could fight their way back into the game. Following several changes Bessacarr kicked off the 2nd half, and started to make use of the wind. With the defence pushing up further, they started to dominate and before long Jack C broke into the left hand side of the area and was fouled - penalty! Up stepped Rhys to score, and suddenly the boys felt they could get back into the game. As Bessacarr grew in confidence they poured forwards more and more, and before long the pressure was beginning to tell on the Rossington defence. Following a corner that wasn't cleared, Rhys was again on hand to put a low shot into the corner to make it 2-3 - game on! The boys continued to attack, and Brandon and Henry worked hard in midfield whilst the defence had to remain on their guard. Jacob had to be quick off his line to clear a couple of times, and also Joe made a couple of vital interceptions. At the other end, Danny went close during a goalmouth scramble, but before too much longer the equaliser came. Ross broke into the area, and put a low ball across the Rossington goal, which was diverted into his own net by one of their defenders to make it 3-3. As the crowd erupted (well, some of us did), the boys could sense victory. However, as both teams pushed forwards desperately trying to win it, the referee blew the final whistle to end a thrilling game. A superb fightback and a thoroughly deserved point against a well organised team. Fantastic stuff boys - well done! (MoM = Rhys) |

Following last week’s heavy defeat, the boys had a good chance to bounce back against Tickhill. This week Jack C bravely stood down, as again all the squad were available to play.  Following a tight 1-1 draw earlier in the season, we knew that both sides were evenly matched, and so expected another tight game. Birthday boy, and captain for the day, Ant kicked off, but as the game swung from end to end neither side managed to dominate possession. There were few chances on goal for either team - Bessacarr’s best one came when Jay G broke through on goal, but as he shot the referee (rightly I’m afraid) blew for a handball. At the other end Rhys, Joe, Emil and Brandon defended well to limit Tickhill to just one or two chances. However, it was Tickhill who came closest to scoring, when they finally managed to beat Jacob, and just as the ball looked to be going in, back sprinted Emil to clear it off the line (with his right foot too!). The half ended 0-0, and the game was proving to be as tight as we’d expected. Following the customary half time changes, the second half carried on in the same fashion. However, the game started to open up and it was Tickhill that created a few clear chances, but on each occasion Jacob was equal to them and made some fine saves.  At the other end Cameron and Oscar both had good chances blocked, before Tickhill finally had a chance to open the scoring, as the ref gave a penalty against Christian for a trip just inside the area. The penalty was hit straight and low, but Jacob stood his ground to save it and keep the score at 0-0. A few minutes later however, Bessacarr broke down the right, and Cameron found himself with a free run on goal. His shot from just inside the area was well saved by the Tickhill keeper, but up popped Emil to sidefoot the rebound into the net to make it 1-0. The boys managed to finish the game strongly and comfortably defended their narrow lead for the remaining few minutes, to get a fantastically well deserved victory. Every single one of the squad played their part in what was a tense and tough game - I wish I could have given 16 man of the match awards, as they had all worked their socks off. Well done boys, fantastic!(MoM = Emil) |

Following some encouraging performances recently, the boys had a chance to see how they had developed with a return game against the league leaders, Stainforth, who had beaten them convincingly on the opening day of the season. With everyone available for just about the first time this season, Joe was the unlucky one to miss out, being volunteered to stand down by his Dad. The game started with Stainforth on the attack, but Bessacarr matched them and defended well. Unfortunately after around 10mins, with their first real threat on goal, Jacob unluckily misjudged a long ball through, and the boys found themselves one down. A few minutes later another Stainforth breakaway led to a 2nd. However, the boys carried on battling, and desperately tried to create a clear chance of their own to get back into the game. Although 2 down at half time, there had not been much to separate the teams and the boys started the 2nd half hoping that they could fight their way back. With several changes taking place, the team kept battling, but gradually Stainforth got on top, and started to dominate. A string of fine saves from Jacob kept the scored down, but Stainforth managed to extend their lead further. In spite of their best attempts, including winning several corners, Bessacarr just couldn’t manage to create a clear chance as Stainforth defended well. A couple of late goals, including a debatable one that looked to be clearly offside (we all agreed Malc!) resulted in the game finishing in a rather unfair 0-6 defeat. Although Stainforth were clearly the better team, the boys showed enough to suggest that on another day it could have and would have been much closer.(MoM = Jacob) |

Following a narrow 3-2 defeat away to Bawtry 2 weeks ago, the boys had a quick chance for revenge in the return fixture. Bessacarr started the game strongly and used both wings well as they went on the attack, once again playing some really good football. Following a period of pressure they got their reward when Jay G found himself 6 yards out, with the ball at his feet and plenty of time to beat the Bawtry keeper and make it 1-0. However, Bawtry came back strongly, and several times broke away quickly.  Christian and Jack R had to use their pace several times to keep them out, but before too long one of their breaks resulted in a cool finish over Jacob's head to make the score 1-1. Bessacarr came back and Ross, Oscar and Jay G all came close to restoring their lead. However, another quick Bawtry break led to a 2nd, and the boys suddenly found themselves having to once again come from behind. With Jack R and Henry getting forward to help, the boys fought back and finally got what they deserved after a superb cross field ball from Oscar (...just like Brian Stock!) put Cameron away on the left, and he sprinted into the area and cooly finished to make it 2-2. Following a few changes at half time the boys again started well and went straight onto the attack. With a Shreddie powered Jay W pushing forward and causing all sorts of problems for the Bawtry defence, Bessacarr kept the pressure on and before too long it paid off as Cameron managed to get free in the area and make it 3-2. With Ant and Danny also getting more involved it looked only a matter of time before the boys would add to their lead. The closest they came was when Ant played a lovely defence splitting ball through to Jack C, and as he broke clear a last ditch tackle meant his shot just went the wrong side of the post. Bawtry didn't give up though, and towards the end, Jacob had to make a great double save to keep them out. The game ended in a thoroughly deserved victory, and once again the boys had shown great teamwork and demonstrated that they were improving with every game - well done!
